ROKKAKU FARM
Rooftop Farm
“Where am I?” is a question you might ask when you set foot on the rooftop Rokkaku Farm. Even though it is the rooftop of an urban building, trees grow as if they are in a foothill farm. The air smells distinctly different almost makes you think you set foot in a different world — which is not a surprise considering that the soil of this farm was prepared carefully at Tamba. The soil runs almost 2 feet deep as if a piece of rural farm was sliced and carefully placed on the top of a building. This is the first large-scale rooftop farm in the middle of an urban city in Japan. There are little opportunities to feel close to a farm and appreciate how much time it takes to grow them when living in the city. By visiting this farm, we hope to nurture your curiosity of how produce is grown and help cultivate an appreciate to agriculture. We believe these initial small steps are crucial for reinvigorating Japanese agriculture.
